The ship that sank during its maiden voyage
A tour of the Vasa Ship Museum, which sank during its maiden voyage. 1.5 hours.
A story that began as a triumph and ended as a catastrophe. King Gustav II Adolf ordered the construction of the most powerful warship of its time. “Vasa” was supposed to become the pride of the Swedish fleet, but sank 20 minutes after launch in 1628.
After 333 years, the ship was raised from the bottom of Stockholm Bay - it was 95% preserved! Now we can examine it in all its details: from the richly decorated stern to the gun decks. We’ll learn why “Vasa” sank, who was to blame for the tragedy, and how the ship became a symbol of 17th-century Swedish ambitions.
